Arizona - Grand Canyon & Red Rock Crossing

Wild Elk

As we were driving down 64 South, just getting past the South Entrance (on our way to Flagstaff and Sedona), we saw a cluster of cars pulled off and stopped on the other side of the road. As we drove by, we could see they were watching a group of elk a little ways off the road. We quickly turned around, I grabbed my camera, and fired off shots as I followed their movements through the woods. It seemed like they stayed constantly in shadows, or partial shadows, making it difficult to get a clear shot. I was fairly happy with the one shown here. Canon 100-400 at 400 mm, ISO 200, f/6.3, 1/160 second (hand-held).
