Butterflies

Owl Butterfly (Caligo mennon)

This was a large (perhaps 4 inches vertically) and incredibly detailed butterfly. It clung to the tree trunk and stayed motionless for quite a well, letting me take a number of shots. All the others used a vertical orientation, but somehow this one looks better to my eye. Canon 100-400 at 180 mm, 20 mm extension, ISO 400, f/16, 1/200 second (manual mode), 550EX Flash EV +2/3, monopod with Arca-Swiss ballhead and Wimberley Sidekick.
