We took an awesome trip to see and photograph Albatross and other pelagic birds with Albatross Encounters, out of Kaikoura. The birds were apparently quite accustomed to seeing these boats out there, and with some food put out behind the boat, we were able to have quite an "up-close" encounter with these birds. I definitely didn't need my 600L! and much shorter lenses were quite adequate. In fact, with many of the birds right at the side of the boat, I could have used my macro lens if I'd had it with me! We would move from one location to another, and this would give us opportunities for getting take-off and landing shots for the various species following us. One of the main challenges was isolating a bird in the frame since there were so many around us.
