We had spotted a number of these cormorant-looking birds, before knowing what they were, and I was really hoping to get some photos of them, as well as find out what they were. While shooting the Oystercatchers and White-faced Herons, I spotted an individual off on the rocks, and gradually made my way toward him, shooting periodically as I got closer. There was a small channel of water separating his rock from where I was, so fortunately I guess he didn't feel too threatened, and I was able to get fairly close to him. To get the shot above, I lowered the tripod a foot or so, so I could shoot at a slightly upward angle, to put the blue sky behind his head. This is one of my favorite shots from this trip.
